Football and the world cup may not be the flavour of the month for everyone, but what started out as a fairly low key event by normal standards, has suddenly gripped the nation and huge excitement is building on the back of England’s football success.
This success, coupled with two months of glorious weather, is creating a blanket of the ‘Feel Good Factor’ and it’s sweeping across the nation (or at least in England!). As butchers, this feel good factor is no better manifested than in the countries love of barbecuing and the demand for meat based BBQ products has been huge for the team here at Turnbull’s!
Sausages continue to dominate the Turnbull’s counters – Northumberland, Pork, Gin & Tonic, The Northumbrian Dragon, Pork & Caramelised Onion and our new range of Smoke House Sausages have been in High Demand.
Burgers remain as popular as ever and our counter has featured up to eight different varieties of burgers over the last two months. It seemed only right that we made a burger for the world cup and ‘The Kane Burger’ was created by our team of skilled butchers! A beef burger flavoured with a subtle hint of smoke and a background note of chilli is wrapped in streaky bacon to form the St Georges cross and is perfect for the occasion – ‘Smoking Hot just like Harry Kane’ – it’s the only burger to be had on match day!
Kebabs continue to grow in popularity and this year’s best sellers are Teriyaki Beef, Lemon, Chilli & Ginger Chicken, Beef Top Rump in Black Garlic and Black Garlic Chicken Kebabs. Beef minute steaks are as popular as ever, a thin beef steak that requires minimal cooking always proves to be a hit when firing up the coals.
It really is amazing how much a bit of good weather can cheer up a nation and at the heart of it all is our love of barbecuing. The world cup Is adding to this feel good factor, but regardless of England’s success (we’re writing this ahead of the quarter final with Sweden!) as long as we keep waking up knowing the sun will be shining then the charcoal will keep burning and the feel good factor will continue – long may it last!
